Re-Occurring Dream

A true story...

By: Joanne Perkins

The book may be titled "God Calling Earth".   For now, it is a work in progress.  It is a testimony of God's everlasting "Perfect Plan" at work in our life.   The adventure unveils the adverse consequences of believing in ones own personal strengths verses the authority and power of God.

Ironically, Jesus Christ was no stranger to the Perkins family.    As a young married couple, the Perkins were baptized and studied God's word.    When their daughter was seven years old, she too asked Jesus into her heart and was baptized.   The mapping pointed to a life of harmony.  Unfortunately, the Perkins divorced in 1994 and their daughter lost her spiritual objectives during the process.

Fortunately years later, our Lord intensified the Perkins understanding of His grace and mercy.  In their separate life paths was a grueling spiritual awakening.   God's Holy Spirit put things into perspective for the Perkins.  "Glorify God, trust His promises."   This was and is His message; God is not playing around!  "Praise God for all things."

Making critical medical decisions based on God's love alone was unnerving for the Perkins, at best.  However the hopeless prognosis the doctors and caregivers offered for their adult daughter was unacceptable.  Our Lord made sure there were no other alternatives but surrender to God and His perfect plans.  The results were astounding!

Second Draft - Document in progress

The true story of a mother's journey; serving as caregiver to her suddenly ill adult daughter. Shaun, the beautiful and accomplished 25-year-old women collapsed at work.  That day God's hand carried them through an astounding 6 month journey.  God's Holy Spirit blasted through boundaries no man could explain.

The perfect plan in progress, God said, Joanne …

  • It is for my glory that you face these trials.
  • Stand firm and be strong for my sake.

This story is intended to magnify God's glory.  His grace and mercy shines throughout this modern day testimony.  The challenges seemed endless; adversity was constantly grinding at their hope.  Looking back, the entire adventure glorifies God.  Jesus Christ is King.

God Is Calling

By: Joanne Perkins, Mother of Shaun

God is calling us,

This is how I know.

His Spirit came and told me,

We are part of His perfect plan.

His grace and mercy shows throughout this electronic journal.

God has my complete attention.

Giving God glory is our goal.

Acknowledge His power; honor His name.

Jesus Christ, our Lord loves us as no other could.

Please open your heart.

I love you,    Mom

I have completed the first draft of my book.  Proof and edits are pending.  Defining my mind set as we traveled through the 5 month long medical emergency is important to the story.  I have not been able to capture the concept of giving God glory for all things.  This was the point of the project; my objective in writing our story is to glorify God.  (AKA - Testimony).

The following works reflect Joanne's mind set as she pressed on.

P.U.S.H!

When everything seems to go wrong,...just P.U.S.H.!

When the job gets you down,...just P.U.S.H.!

When people don't react the way you think they should,...just P.U.S.H.!

When your money looks funny and the bills are due,...just P.U.S.H.!

When you want to tell them off for whatever the reason,...just P.U.S.H.!

When people just don't understand you,...just P.U.S.H.!

P.U.S.H  --  Pray Until Something Happens!

This story is a good visual on the surprise conclusions in God's perfect plans…jp

A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light and the Savior appeared.  The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin.  The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. This the man did, day after day.

For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might.  Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out; feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain. Seeing that the man was showing signs of discouragement, the adversary decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the man's weary mind:  "You have been pushing against that rock for a long time, and it hasn't budged.  Why kill yourself over this?  You are never going to move it."  Thus giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure.  These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man. "Why kill myself over this?" he thought. "I'll just put in my time, giving just the minimum effort and that will be good enough." And that is what he planned to do until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord.

"Lord" he said, "I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked.  Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter.  What is wrong? Why am I failing?"

The Lord responded compassionately, "My friend, when I asked you to serve me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done.  Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it.  Your task was to push, and now you come to me, with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed.  But, is that really so?  Look at yourself.  Your arms are strong and muscled, your back sinewy and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven't moved the rock.  But your calling was to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom.  This you have done.  I, my friend, will now move the rock."

At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him....  By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves the mountains.  Author unknown.

WHEN I SAY I AM A CHRISTIAN

When I say ... I am a Christian
I'm not shouting "I am saved."
I'm whispering "I get lost"
That is why I chose this way.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need someone to be my guide.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I am weak
and pray for strength to carry on.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
and cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are too visible
but God believes I'm worth it.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek HIS name.

When I say ... I am a Christian
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority
I only know I'm loved.

Authors Notes:

The adventures experienced with my seriously ill daughter has been a life changing process.  God has called me in and I embrace the safety of His love now, more than ever.  As He promised, all is forgiven.; my errors and shortcomings are forgotten.  PRAISE God!

Through the process, God was cleaning my heart somehow.  Humbling me and my circumstances in a wonderful way.    As serious and dreadful as things were, He kept us safe; we were assured our task had purpose, a priority beyond explanation.   The purpose of our trial was to glorify God, our King and Creator.

Well, I for one say, “Count me in!”  It is my prayer that Shaunie heeds the lessons learned, despite having no memory of her 5 month hospital stay.
